I first took up the clarinet age 7, when I realised early on that blowing a recorder just wasn't satisfying enough. I joined the North East Concert Band shortly after and spent a good two years tooting away on 3rd, during which time I was possibly the only member ever to have been in the band who was smaller than their instrument. After a 12-year absence I came back in 2009, this time armed with a degree, several Grade 8's and my good old plastic Yamaha, although nowadays I'm much less fussy about what I put in my mouth as long as I get some good noises at the end of it. In my spare time I work as deputy Musical Director at Lumley Castle Hotel where I oversee the artistic side of the Elizabeth Banquets, as well as MDing for several amateur musical societies around the north east. I've also worked as a piano accompanist at the music department at Leeds University.
